Comparative trial: Sprayfo Vitesse vs standard calf milk replacer
In this trial, Sprayfo Vitesse was fed according to the LifeStart protocol (more grams powder/L milk for a higher plane of nutrition) and tested versus a standard calf milk replacer (per the prescribed feeding schedule of that product) to compare growth performance and faecal scores of female calves.
Trial
Carried out Sept - Dec 2016 at the Trouw Nutrition calf rearing facilities in the Netherlands.
Reared under the same conditions and fed the same quantity (in litres) of calf milk replacer (CMR) for 9 weeks, the two groups of calves were weighed weekly. Faecal scoring was also done weekly.
Note: the average birth weight of the Sprayfo calves was 1.5kg less than those in the other group.
Conclusion
Calves on Sprayfo Vitesse showed a higher growth from birth until weaning at 9 weeks, when compared to traditional calf milk replacer application.
Feeding 12% more milk solids of a higher quality resulted in 19% higher average daily gain.
Feed efficiency improved by 6%, compared to traditional calf milk replacer.
Calves on Sprayfo Vitesse showed less loose faeces, which supports the improvement of feed efficiency.
